Set Yourself Up for Success in Your New Role
Congratulations on your new job! The first 90 days are crucial in establishing your reputation, managing your boss, understanding company culture, and setting the foundation for long-term success. Here’s a roadmap to help you navigate your onboarding process effectively:
- Week 1: Absorb and Observe
- Understand written company values, policies, and expectations.
- Build rapport with your manager and team members through lunches and coffee chats. Listen more than you speak.
- Ask questions and take notes to clarify your role and responsibilities.

- Identify all the new stakeholders you’ll be working closely including your boss, your Boss’s boss, your peers, your subordinates if applicable, mentor, key customers
- Set up appointments with all your new stakeholders for lunch, coffee chat, or in office/by zoom.
- Inquire about them and their roles and how you can support them in reaching their goals. Ask about their proudest accomplishments. Listen carefully and take notes after.
- Communicate your role and express the types of specific support you’d appreciate as you navigate your way through the first 90 days.
